Medals and final standings
A league’s medals arrive one of two ways, and Velos records which. Either its bracket decided them — gold and silver out of the gold match, bronze out of the bronze match — or its final qualification standings did, for a league that shoots no bracket at all. Everything else on this page follows from that one difference.
The two sources
Section titled “The two sources”| From the bracket | From the standings | |
|---|---|---|
| Who decides | the medal matches | the final ranking |
| When | the moment those matches finish | when you award them |
| What you do | nothing | Auto-award on the Medals tab |
| Tagged | Elimination | Qualification |
Every medal carries its source in the Source column, so a podium made of both — an individual event off the standings, a team event off a bracket — says so, medal by medal.
The Medals tab holds one league at a time, in three sections — individual, team and mixed team — each listing gold, silver and bronze with who took them and where the result came from.

Either way, a league’s medals only open once its qualification has been finalized. Until then the tab says Medals open after qualification and points you at the Leagues tab to close it, which Leagues covers.
From the bracket — nothing to press
Section titled “From the bracket — nothing to press”When the matches that decide a bracket finish, its medals are written in the same stroke that completes it: gold to the winner of the gold match, silver to whoever it beat, and bronze to the winner of the bronze match. There is no award step to remember, and no way to forget it.
- A medal already given by hand is left alone. The automatic award never overwrites what somebody recorded deliberately.
- A bracket of three awards its bronze by a bye. Only one semifinal is shot, so its loser takes the bronze medal match as a bye and the bronze with it, no arrows needed.
- A bracket of two has no bronze match — there is no third archer to give it to — so no bronze is awarded automatically. Where the league gives a third place anyway, record it yourself from the Medals tab.
- The last bracket to finish completes the league. Individual, team and mixed each finish on their own; when the final one is done the league itself reads Completed, and its scores are checked against the record book at the same moment. Results and prints covers what that check does.
Provisional until the paper check
Section titled “Provisional until the paper check”A medal off a bracket is marked Provisional while the match that decided it has not been checked against the paper scorecard — gold and silver until the gold match is validated, bronze until the bronze match is. A bronze that came by a bye has no scorecard to check, so it is never provisional; nor are medals off the standings, since no match decided them.

Open that match in Score Entry and Validate it, and the tag goes. Anything still reading Provisional when you publish is a medal nobody has checked against paper — Eliminations covers the check itself.
From the standings — Auto-award
Section titled “From the standings — Auto-award”A league that stops at qualification takes its medals off its final ranking instead. Once it is finalized, Auto-award medals… at the top of the Medals tab opens the drawer for the whole competition; Auto-award from standings, in one section’s own menu, does the same for the league in front of you.

The drawer is a preview, not a first step of the award. It counts what each league could award, and writes nothing until you tick something and confirm — opening it and pressing Cancel leaves the competition exactly as it was.
What lands, per event:
- Individual — the top three of the final standings.
- Team — the top three clubs, ranked on their best three archers’ scores added together; a club with fewer than three scored archers cannot field one and is not counted.
- Mixed team — the top three clubs on their best man plus their best woman, and both leagues of the pair must be finalized before any of it is awarded. Half a pairing would be awarding off scores that can still change.
The team figure is not a second count written to look like the first: it comes from the very computation that forms a league’s teams for a bracket, so the drawer and the team event agree on which clubs can field one. Team and mixed team events covers that maths.
Rows you cannot tick are shown rather than hidden, so the reason is visible:
- Eliminations generated — this event’s medals come from its bracket.
- Medals awarded — it already has some. Auto-award never overwrites: an event already holding a medal is skipped whole.
- No formable unit — no scored archers, or no club that can field a full team.
Recording one by hand
Section titled “Recording one by hand”The ⋮ menu on a section holds the rest. + Award Medal records a single medal — the third place a two-team bracket cannot produce, a decision taken off the field — asking what it is for, which medal, where the result came from and who took it. Revoke takes one back, and Clear all empties that event.
Closing a league that shot no bracket
Section titled “Closing a league that shot no bracket”Mark complete, on the Leagues tab, is what finishes a league whose medals came off the standings; it is offered only while the league has no bracket, since one that does finishes through it instead. Leagues covers both endings and how each is undone.
Where medals show
Section titled “Where medals show”Away from the Medals tab itself, medals show up wherever progress does:

- The Leagues tab carries a marker per event — individual always, team and mixed once there is evidence the league runs them, which is a bracket drawn or a medal already awarded. Hover one for its “2/3 awarded”. A league whose qualification is not closed yet shows a dash instead, since it has nothing to award.
- The Overview rolls the same thing up as Medals: 1/7 events awarded, beside the count of categories complete.
- The prints turn them into paper: the medal lists live in the Awards stage of Results and prints.
The final classification
Section titled “The final classification”Medals are the top of a longer list. The final classification is a league’s whole field in finishing order, 1 to N, and it is what the elimination results print — the same order the match-craft analytics read to say an archer seeded 3rd and went out in the 1/8.
It is built the way World Archery §12.6 asks:
- 1 and 2 are the gold match, winner then loser. 3 and 4 are the bronze match, the same way — a bronze taken by a bye gives a 3rd and no 4th.
- 5 and down are the losers of each earlier round, taken a round at a time — the beaten quarterfinalists, then the round before that, and so on.
- Within a round they are ordered by how they shot: the one-arrow average of the arrows they shot in the match they lost, highest first. Where that is level, the average of their shoot-off arrows separates them.
- Archers who never made the bracket follow, in the order their qualification left them.
Two archers who genuinely cannot be separated — same round, same regulation average, same shoot-off average — share a place, and the next place skips: 5, 6, 6, 8. Some federations require every archer to be given a place of their own instead, and break those ties by qualification seeding, so the same field prints 5, 6, 7, 8.
Medals decided and the order behind them settled, what is left is paper. Results and prints covers the documents a competition produces, its records, and putting results on a screen.
